Paul Frankham - Wrap up from Sochi

Paul Olympics

After a few weeks back I’ve now had a chance to reflect on the Winter Olympics in Sochi. It was an amazing experience and one that I’m sure team USA would consider a great success. The Men’s Alpine team, who I had the pleasure of working with, managed to contribute to the haul with a bronze, silver and gold.

Certainly the highlight of the trip for me was being a part of that gold medal performance by Ted Ligety to take the Giant Slalom win. This meant an awful lot to him but also to the team, and myself as the physiotherapist, who all worked hard to get him in the right position to take the win.

I was also fortunate enough to march in the closing ceremony along with the athletes. Clothed in our dapper Ralph Lauren uniforms I believe we stole the show as everyone wanted photos with us after the ceremony.

The Sochi games, despite the initial controversy went off without a hitch and it was truly a stunning location, one I would love to return to for some free skiing.

I look forward to continuing my work with the US ski team in future events.
